Cancellation Steps

1

Go to your paid memberships page

On a computer or mobile browser, sign in and go to youtube.com/paid_memberships. (In the YouTube Music app, tap your profile picture, then Paid memberships.)

2

Open your YouTube Music Premium membership

Click (or tap) on your YouTube Music Premium membership, then click Deactivate (on mobile, tap Continue to cancel).

3

Confirm the cancellation

Click (or tap) Continue to cancel, select a reason for canceling, then click Next.

4

Finish

Click (or tap) Yes, cancel. Your benefits continue until the end of the billing period, and you won't be charged again unless you re-subscribe.

5

If you signed up through a third party

If you subscribed via Apple (iTunes) or another partner, cancel through them. On iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions to cancel.

Refund Policy

YouTube generally does not issue refunds or credits for the unused part of a billing period; instead you keep Premium access until the period you already paid for ends.

  • No prorated refunds for canceling mid-cycle — Premium features stay active until the end of the current billing period.
  • Refunds are only granted where required by law or at Google's discretion; contact YouTube/Google support to request an exception.
  • If you were billed through the Apple App Store, any refund must be requested from Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com), not Google.

Common Issues

No 'Paid memberships' option appears

You may be signed in to the wrong Google account; sign out and back in with the account that holds the subscription, since family or work accounts often differ from the billed one.

Can't cancel in the app

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store (or Google Play / a mobile carrier / a third party), the in-app cancel option is hidden and you must cancel through that provider's subscription settings instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose access to Premium immediately when I cancel?
No. After you deactivate, you keep YouTube Music Premium (ad-free, background play, and downloads) until the end of your current billing cycle, then it reverts to the free tier.
Do I get a refund for the rest of the month?
Typically no — YouTube does not refund the unused portion of a billing period, but you retain full Premium access for the time you've already paid for.
I subscribed on my iPhone — why can't I cancel in the app?
If you signed up through the Apple App Store, Apple manages the billing, so you must cancel in iPhone Settings under your name > Subscriptions, not inside the YouTube Music app.
