Questions

Spotify pricing FAQ

How much has Spotify gone up in price?
As of Jul 2026, Spotify Premium Individual costs $12.99/month in the US — +30% from $9.99 in 2021, across 3 price hikes. That comparison is the primary plan charted on this page: current US list price versus the stored launch price, with every intervening change kept as a dated event. The latest change took it from $11.99 to $12.99/month on Jan 15, 2026, as reported by Spotify Newsroom. Each event links to a primary source — an official newsroom post or reputable reporting — listed in the pricing log below. Prices are US list prices in USD, excluding tax; promotional and app-store rates can differ. Subscription Price Guide is an independent index and is not affiliated with Spotify. Every statistic on this page — current price, total increase, hike count, highs and lows — is computed at build time from the stored event log, so the page, the structured data and the index cannot disagree.
How much is Spotify Premium per month in 2026?
Spotify Premium costs $12.99 per month for the Individual plan in the US as of the January 15, 2026 price increase. Duo (two people) is $18.99/month, Family (up to six accounts) is $21.99/month, and Student is $6.99/month. The ad-supported free tier remains available at no cost.
Why did my Spotify bill go up in 2026?
Spotify raised US Premium prices effective January 15, 2026 — its third increase since 2023. Individual went from $11.99 to $12.99, Duo from $16.99 to $18.99, Family from $19.99 to $21.99 and Student from $5.99 to $6.99, with the new rate applied on each subscriber's next billing date.
Does Spotify Premium have a free trial?
Yes. As of July 2026, Spotify offers new Premium users three months free before billing starts at $12.99 per month; the promotion is only for people who have never tried Premium. Premium Student comes with a one-month free trial before its $6.99 monthly rate begins.
What is the difference between Spotify Free and Premium?
Spotify Free plays music with ads at up to 160kbps and does not allow offline downloads. Premium ($12.99/month) removes ads and adds offline listening, unlimited skips, lossless audio up to 24-bit FLAC and 15 hours of audiobook listening per month. Since September 2025, free users can also pick and play songs on demand.
How does the Spotify Family plan work?
Premium Family costs $21.99 per month and covers up to six Premium accounts for family members living at the same address — about $3.67 per person when full. Everyone gets their own separate account and recommendations, plus access to Spotify Kids and explicit-content controls for the plan manager.
What is Spotify Duo?
Premium Duo is Spotify's plan for two people living at the same address, priced at $18.99 per month after the January 2026 increase. Each person keeps a separate Premium account, and the plan adds Duo Mix, a shared playlist blending both members' tastes. It saves about $7 a month versus two Individual plans.
Does Spotify Student still come with Hulu?
Yes. Spotify Premium Student costs $6.99 per month and includes Hulu (With Ads) at no extra cost. It is limited to students 18 or older enrolled at an accredited US college or university, verified through SheerID, and you can stay on the plan for up to four years while enrolled.
Does Spotify Premium include audiobooks?
Yes. Premium Individual includes 15 hours of audiobook listening per month from Spotify's included-audiobooks catalog; on Duo and Family plans, the 15 monthly hours go to the plan manager. Free-tier users do not get audiobook hours and are generally limited to older public-domain recordings.

Methodology

How We Verify Spotify Pricing

  1. 01

    Official sources only

Every price change in the log links to Spotify’s own pricing page, help-center documentation, or announcement — never estimates or third-party reports.

  2. 02

    Recorded as events

Prices are stored as dated change events, and every statistic on this page is computed from that log at build time — displayed numbers can never drift from the sources.

  3. 03

    Verified Jul 2026

This page was last checked against Spotify’s official pricing and is re-verified whenever a change is announced.

  4. 04

    US list prices

All prices are US list prices in USD, before taxes and fees. Promotional rates and app-store markups can differ from the prices shown here.
