Apple Music Pricing FAQ

How much is Apple Music per month in 2026?
Apple Music costs $10.99/month for the Individual plan, $16.99/month for the Family plan (up to six people), and $5.99/month for verified students in the US. These prices have not changed since October 2022, making Apple Music one of the few major streaming services with no price increase in over three years.
Does Apple Music have a free trial?
Yes. New subscribers get a one-month free trial of Apple Music. Buying an eligible new Apple device, such as an iPhone, AirPods, HomePod, or Beats headphones, extends the offer to three months free. After the trial, the subscription renews at the standard rate of $10.99/month for the Individual plan.
How much is the Apple Music Family plan and how many people can use it?
The Apple Music Family plan costs $16.99/month and covers up to six people through Apple's Family Sharing. Every member gets a personal music library, recommendations, and playlists rather than a shared account. Split six ways it works out to about $2.83 per person, versus $10.99 for an Individual plan.
Is there an Apple Music annual plan?
Yes, but only for the Individual plan. Apple sells a $109/year annual subscription, about $23 cheaper than twelve months at $10.99. It is not shown on the main signup page; you switch to yearly billing from your Apple Account subscription settings. Family and Student plans are billed monthly only.
Is Apple Music cheaper than Spotify?
Yes. Apple Music Individual is $10.99/month while Spotify Premium Individual is $12.99/month after Spotify's January 2026 increase, a $2 monthly difference. Apple Music has held its US price since October 2022, while Spotify has raised US prices three times in that span (July 2023, June 2024, and January 2026).
Does Apple Music charge extra for lossless and Spatial Audio?
No. Lossless audio and Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos are included in every Apple Music plan, Individual, Family, and Student alike, at no extra cost, and have been since Apple added both features in June 2021. All paid plans stream the full catalog of over 100 million songs ad-free.
How much is Apple Music for students?
The Apple Music Student plan is $5.99/month in the US, a rate set in June 2022 when it rose from $4.99. Enrolled college and university students verify eligibility through UNiDAYS and can keep the discount for up to four years. The plan also includes Apple TV+ at no extra charge.
When did Apple Music last raise its prices?
October 24, 2022, when the Individual plan went from $9.99 to $10.99/month and the Family plan from $14.99 to $16.99/month, with Apple citing higher music licensing costs. The Student plan had risen from $4.99 to $5.99 in June 2022. There have been no further US increases through mid-2026.
