Cancellation Steps

01

Work out where you subscribed

X Premium must be cancelled on the platform where you first subscribed — the web (x.com), iOS (App Store) or Android (Google Play). Cancelling anywhere else won't stop the billing.

02

Cancel on the web

If you subscribed at x.com, sign in, open Premium in the side menu, go to your subscription settings and select Manage subscription, then follow the prompts to cancel.

03

Cancel on iPhone or iPad

If you subscribed through the iOS app, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, select X and tap Cancel Subscription.

04

Cancel on Android

If you subscribed through the Android app, open Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptionsSubscriptions, select X and tap Cancel subscription.

05

Do it 24 hours before renewal

X recommends cancelling at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next cycle. Premium features stay active until the end of the current billing period.

Refund policy

X does not refund partial billing periods. When you cancel, Premium features (including the blue checkmark) remain until the end of the paid period, then the account reverts to the free tier.

  • No pro-rated refunds on monthly or annual plans.
  • The blue checkmark and other perks disappear when the paid period ends.

Common issues

No cancel option on x.com?

If you can't manage the subscription on the website, you almost certainly subscribed through the iOS or Android app — cancel in Apple's or Google's subscription settings instead.

Annual plans renew all at once

Annual subscriptions ($32 Basic / $84 Premium / $395 Premium+) charge a full year at renewal with no partial refund afterwards — set a reminder well before the date.

Deactivating your account doesn't cancel

Deactivating or deleting your X account does not stop an app-store subscription — cancel the subscription separately or billing can continue.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose my blue checkmark immediately?
No. Premium features, including the checkmark, stay active until the end of your current billing period, then your account returns to the free tier.
Can I get a refund on X Premium?
Generally no — X's terms exclude refunds for partial periods. App-store purchases follow Apple's or Google's refund policies, which occasionally grant exceptions.
Can I switch to a cheaper tier instead of cancelling?
Yes. You can downgrade — for example from Premium+ ($40/month) to Premium ($8/month) or Basic ($3/month) — in the same subscription settings; the change applies at the next billing cycle.
