Cancellation Steps

01

There is no Cancel button — you downgrade

iCloud+ has no separate cancel option. To stop paying, you downgrade your storage to the free 5GB plan, which cancels the paid iCloud+ subscription.

02

Back up your data first

Before downgrading, download or remove any content that exceeds 5GB so you don't lose anything. You'll also lose iCloud+ features like Hide My Email, Private Relay, and HomeKit Secure Video.

03

Open Manage Plan

On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap iCloud, then tap Manage Plan (or Manage Account Storage). On a Mac, go to System Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage.

04

Choose Downgrade Options

Tap Downgrade Options and sign in if asked. Then select the Free (5GB) plan from the list of plans.

05

Confirm the downgrade

Tap Done to confirm. A blue check appears next to the free plan. The change takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

Refund policy

Apple does not refund the remaining days, but your purchased iCloud+ storage stays until the current billing period ends.

  • After downgrading you return to the free 5GB tier.
  • If your data exceeds 5GB, new backups and syncing stop until you free up space.
  • Refund requests can be submitted at reportaproblem.apple.com but are rarely granted for storage.

Common issues

Stuck above the free 5GB limit

If your usage is over 5GB when the downgrade takes effect, iCloud Backup, Photos sync, and iCloud Drive uploads pause until you delete data.

iCloud+ is part of Apple One

If your storage came through Apple One, you cannot downgrade it separately—you must change or cancel the Apple One bundle.

Frequently asked questions

Is canceling iCloud+ the same as downgrading?
Yes. There is no separate cancel button; selecting the free 5GB plan under Downgrade Options ends iCloud+ billing.
Will I lose my photos and files?
Data isn't deleted immediately, but if you're over 5GB you must reduce usage or move files before syncing resumes.
When does the charge stop?
You keep the paid storage until the end of the current billing cycle, then revert to the free tier.
